Why Riots Happen

The Zimmerman verdict which, whether you agree or disagree with it, is racially highly charged. Then this story comes out of the same state at the same time. Apparently only certain races and one gender are allowed to stand their ground in the wonderful F-state.

Patti,
From what I understand the Zimmerman defense did not use Stand Your Ground. They used "self defense", meaning Martin started the fight.

Also, the Florida woman left her home, got a gun from her car, and re-entered her home. If she were really scared, would it not make more sense to drive the car and go far away?

It's been a long time since I've been in Florida so I was not a witness in either case.

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

It's been many, many a year since justice has been anywhere near the judicial system. Oh, I know, occasionally it happens but too often it feeds sites like this.

@girlgeniusNYC Can you provide pointers for this information?

Myself, I think that even if all of this is true, public perception is not going to be so rational. I expect lots of angry people in the streets.

Doctor -- I read a lot of news sites. I offered my thoughts here for conversational purposes. I think CCNn.com had info on the Florida woman. Not sure where I first read the info on the Zimmerman case.

The woman had an order of protection against against her husband(or ex) and he was there in her home. She did not shoot him but fired warning shots to chase him from HER home. Sounds like stand your ground to me. Bet if she woulda been a he that he would have walked.

We are so far away from the "Star Trek" society these days. Racism and religious hatred is rampant. I think anymore people love to hate to feel something which is an escape from their day to day suffering.

I witnessed neither the incident nor the trial in the Marissa Alexander case, but the jury found the lady guilty -- in only 12 minutes-- of aggravated assault, apparently finding her claims of self-defense and/or warning shots non-credible. The mere fact that a defendant claims a defense does not mean he or she is entitled to it.

As the Zimmerman case illustrates, it is often easier to argue self-defense if you actually kill the other person involved.

Search "Zimmerman voted for Obama" and read the article in The Examiner.

And cnn.com has an interview with a juror from the Zimmerman case, it is the lead story right now.

Let´s see: A white person commits a crime with a gun and a black person commits a crime with a gun. Both occur in a southern state (even with all its sunbirds) that is for all intents and purposes still a redneck state. Hard to see the outcome isn´t it?

You need to get your facts straight. Zimmerman isn't "white", had a broken nose and a bashed in skull but, still, the MOST IMPORTANT FACT is that a jury of his peers FOUND HIM INNOCENT.

Now, just between you, me, and the rest of the wierdos on this forum, I don't give a hoot nor hollar what transpired because a jury of his peers FOUND HIM INNOCENT and, (t)here in America THAT'S THE SYSTEM.

So, no pointers then? I see way too much disinformation to take any claimed "facts" at face value, if there's no reference.

Here's a pointer Doc, Watch court tv! do a little reasearch. I did and found out at washington post.com that MS. Alexander fired her "Warning shot" AT her ex striking the wall near his head, the riccochet hit the ceiling. BTW, Seated next to the ex were his two sons putting on their shoes to leave! The F State has VERY STRICT! MANDITORY sentances for gun crimes!
