Dogs - Wild turkeys are actually quite intelligent. Ben Franklin wanted the wild turkey as our national symbol instead of the bald eagle because of its intelligence if I'm not mistaken (which happens all to frequently).

Fish - Catfish are bottom feeders that eat everything, but there still damn tasty. The less you know about the diet of what you eat the better sometimes.

Frogs - What is with all these children being married? And is this a binding marriage or just symbollic (you never know sometimes)? Can they divorce or does she have to wait for her betrothed to croak first?

Patriot Act (could also be under the heading of Dogs) - And how many older people are going to be put on that list because "Back in my day we didn't have to submit to such indignities!"*whacks security guard with cane*

Novelist - SEVEN PEOPLE?!?! Is that not punishment enough? And the Royalty of Thailand? Come on. That phrase is funny enough as it is.

stop breeding dogs just for cuteness
Cuteness is better than breeding for deformed legs.

( I did not read this link, I only included it for the visual of Twisty Kats. Research it your own damn self if you want to know more.) 😉

DownCrisis, you're correct about wild turkeys. It's the pre-butterball variety that will look up and drown in the rain.

About catfish, however, you're only partially correct. Catfish from the Mississippi river need to be soaked in brine for 24hrs or they taste like Mississippi river bottom.

Louisiana catfish can be eaten like sushi. Although I have never tried them from the river.

You're right Expat47, I think any bottom feeder has to have that done to clean them out. Maybe I should have said when properly prepared they're damn tasty!

And Madd Max, once again, as long as it is prepared correctly (soaking them and cutting them), I have no doubt that catfish sushi would be incredible. The only sushi I have ever encountered that I didn't enjoy was sea urchin. I think that was a texturl issue though because I can't really remember what it tasted like. I was expecting something a bit more substantial like octopus or squid (not sure why) but I got something more like warm butter. I don't even like pudding because of the texture. It was all I could do not to throw up.

Maxx, we send our Illinois catfish down to you all the time! Along with all the other goodies that get dumped into Ole Muddy. 😉

Sea urchin sushi (unizushi) is disgusting! It's like sweet mush. Texture and taste both grossed me out.

Bikerpuppy - I am disappointed that you don't like salty, mush.

Expat - I don't eat anything out of the Mississippi. That's not because of what the northerners do, it's because of what happens right here in New Orleans.

DownCrisis - Not all bottom feeders need to get cleaned. Shrimp, lobsters, crawfish and crabs do not need to get cleaned unless it is a matter of personal preferance. Catfish do not need to be cleaned, not anymore than any other fish. I don't know....maybe it's just a result of where I grew up and what I grew up eating.

BTW - Expat, which is it....Illinois or Egypt? Also, we thank you for everything you dump in the mighty Mississip. That's where we get our soil.

I guess that's why I don't like farm raised fish. I prefer mine as fresh as possible. Since I realized that I do like sushi I have taken to eating some fish right out of the water. That depends on how much I am catching and what I need to bring home.

I don't know about the whiffle bat but, yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it. 😏

This whole discussion has gotten a bit fishy if you ask me.

lazlong in funky town - That's the taste! LOL

Really, crabs don't matter cause they don't seem to have intestine. All I know is they poop out the back, underside flap. So I rip that off before eating, hard or soft shell. The crawfish and the lobsters tend to evac their bowels in the warm water they bath in before we eat them, especially when you add some salt.

Maxx, grew up along the mighty Mississip. Never been to Egypt. Can't really figure out why I want to eat all that sand.

Yellow belly catfish pulled from the Mississippi taste like mud unless you soak them in brine. Channel cat, however, don't require much more preparation that other fish.

And just to make sure our friends who DON'T live along our river; water going back into the river from the cities along the way is "cleaner" than when it was pulled out. Those of us that live(d) up North just have to keep those misplaced Frenchmen in their place. 😉
