This looks like inspiration for many science-fiction / fantasy urban setting movies of the era. You should look through the rest of the article. It sort of looks like "Blade Runner" and "Logan's Run" spliced together. Although it does provoke some thought of how a city could be planned for better functioning, I'd forgotten how elitist and stodgy the New Yorker Magazine could be. I haven't looked thorough one for many years. Does it still have that same attitude?

Well, that Landliner idea is not all that stupid. A 200 MPH tube within Nooyawk would be silly, but along the length of the BosWash? Not that daft. Not that daft at all.
