Alec Templeton

I must confess that until a few days ago, despite loving clever weird music, I had never heard of Alec Templeton. (A DJ at WQXR dispelled my ignorance.) He turns out to be one of those talented composers who could veer between serious and silly with ease.

Tom Lehrer had a routine where he took the ditty "Darling Clementine" and filtered it through a few performance styles, such as Mozart, '60's free form jazz, etc.

Of the performing artists I admire most, those who are able to do a mashup of musical compositions for comedic effect have a special place in my heart. Victor Borge and Frank Zappa, along with Lehrer, are my favorites.
