In those days, science had little to do with product claims. The same thing still goes on - check out what Earnest Angley is pushing on late night T.V. That's what makes the adverts so much fun.

It seems to be more of a hair tonic than a shampoo. Judging from an eBay listing, it was later billed as merely aiding the removal of loose dandruff. You can get a sealed bottle of it for $20 or so.
