Billy Mays

This has been the weirdest month with (in)famous people dying. First, David Carradine was found dead hanging naked in a hotel closet in Thailand, then Ed McMahon dies of pneumonia, both Farah Fawcett and Michael Jackson die on the same day and now Billy Mays has sold his last tub of Oxiclean. May they all rest in peace.

Most on the list make it a sad occasion, however with Billy Mays dead I'm just a little bit cheered up! Goodbye Billy, and good riddance! (I hate that SOB).

I'm more bothered by Billy Mays' death than I am about MJ's.

I just really, really hate loud mouthed infomercial people. Ron Popeil you're next!!! If we can get rid of him and Billy Blanks , I could finally rest easy.
I think it may have its roots in Richard Simmons. I've never really had a fear problem. Two things that have always been true: I don't get scared, and I don't get embarrassed. It's not any kind of macho guy BS, I just haven't. It's always kind of bothered me a little because I think something might be wrong with me.
Anyway, I never really get scared, except for one thing. When I think of the possibility of running into Richard Simmons, and him touching me it freaks me out! His nasty, greasy self trying to shake my hand, or even hug me! I just shivered. Literally. That may be my first infomercial hatred. I know there are greasier people, but Richard Simmons is the only thing in the world that is so terrifying.
The other three don't freak me out that way, but they irritate me in a way I can not possibly describe. However, as far as infomercial go, for some reason I get a little excited to see the Jack LeLane Power Juicer. It is soooooo cool, but I am never going to be able to afford that.

Yes, but the Jack LeLanne Power Juicer has a certain coolness, being that it comes with your very own life-sized Jack LeLanne. Or at least that's how I interpret the commercials.
He invented the fingertip pushups, you know. OK, he didn't invent them, but he did a bunch of them on his exercise videos. That counts for something.

Oh, and by the way. About the whole "man's man" thing. My biggest idol is Jackie Chan. Mostly because in his movies he is usually a regular guy who just happens to get caught up in something horrible, and does his best to step up and defend the weak. Many of the things he has done in real life emulate this archetype as well. For example, he is one of the biggest reasons for the downfall of the 'organized' Chinese mafia and kicking them out of Chinese Hollywood. He took over many studios financially, while funding various local police organizations.
I want to be that kind of man. Even though I know I'll probably never be half as good, it can't stop me from trying to do what's right.

I hated Mays and all the other carnival barkers. I must confess: After hearing of May's death, I fantasized about Anthony Sullivan, that Sham-Wow guy and so many other 'pitchmen' attending the funeral and being wiped out in a freak gas explosion or the like. I don't think there is anything wrong with harboring a deep hatred for irritating, greedy people that invade your home uninvited. That's the risk they take. So, do y'all think they'll retire the Mays spots or let them run their natural life expectancy due to contracts, greed or what-not?

Also, it sound's like Mays may have been a 'man's man' since he may have taken a hit on the head during the plane landing yet turned down medical attention. Yep, that's what happens to a lot of 'tough' guys, they say they're okay, then go home to die in their sleep.

*chuckle* Yes, patty, 'a man's man' can be interpreted in more than one way.

I think I get my morality and sense of duty from my oldest brother. He was a true hero. A renaissance man who could do ANYTHING with his hands and always put others before himself. He would always make sure my needs were taken care of before worrying about himself, and he never refused to teach me anything I wanted to know, always answering my questions the best he could and researching the answers on the few occasions he didn't know himself.
He was a hero. Until he accidentally walked in on a drug deal going down in the place where he worked and was killed.

The thing that impresses me about Billy Mays is that everyone knows who he was. He did his job well, which is to make you remember what you just saw. I didn't care for him always yelling but apparently it worked.

i remember billy mays, but couldn't tell you what very many of his products were. that said, i read somewhere that a wildly popular commercial that everybody talks about but can't necessarily name the product being advertised is concidered a failure. basically on the same level as on no one watches. the point is the product, not a cute commercial or a bigger than life character.
