In Wisconsin there are swarms of lake flies in the summer. When I was a kid my family would go to visit my grandparents, and I could never ride a bike too fast because I'd get a face full of lake flies. Glad I don't have the black flies where I am, we have enough trouble with your basic big city pests.

I'm from Northern Ontario, originally; we didn't have a blackfly problem because the mosquitoes had already claimed the turf, ad the blackflies didn't want to risk a gang war with North Ontario mosquitoes.
