Blue Bills

Montana Public Radio reports about artist Tim Holmes, who's dying money blue and giving it away. He also stamps it with the phrase, "Based on the value of a clean world!" He hopes this will prompt a widespread discussion about environmentalism. Why? Because the money is blue. He elaborates at his website bluebills.us:

Regular green bills express no value. The money we use every day is backed by NOTHING! Its only value is what others think it has. But when two people exchange a Blue Bill, both agree on the value of a clean environment and a healthy community. Every exchange thus is a vote for a clean world!

So green = "no value" but blue = "clean environment and a healthy community". Got it?

"... with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note,
or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued..."
I don't see that it's a violation. Just like crossing out
with a ballpoint "In God We Trust". Still passable, no intent to destroy or defraud. First Amendment!

While regular green bills are backed by nothing, these blue bills are backed by...the idea of a clean world... for which there is absolutely no action to achieve. No money going to the cause. No active or symbolic support for any change or even the discussion of actionable change.

This is about as inane as flocking to buy yellow rubber bracelets from a millionaire career liar who gave himself cancer from a lifetime of cheating. Except that Lance actually did some good along the way.

Just imagine if the Treasury started dying them all blue! We could solve all those pesky environmental problems without any of the work or expense!

Yikes! Don't combine efforts to fix the environment AND the US monetary system all at once. Find a point and stay on it, Mr. Holmes!

Please read what this project is about before exposing yourself. It's of course very easy to fling epithets as long as you don't understand what's going on. Please read what Blue Bills are about at BlueBills.us, then go ahead and critique the idea. If there are holes in the idea we would like to know!
