Felonious B.O.

It's not just British amusement parks that are overly concerned with smelly riders. Honolulu, Hawaii city council is considering an ordinance against smelly bus riders. The law would make it illegal to have 'odors that unreasonably disturb others or interfere with their use of the public transit system'. This would include personal odors, smelly clothing or belongings, and/ or any animals with the rider. While not really a felony, the offense would be punishable by up to a $500 fine and as much as 6 months in jail. I guess the offender would get a shower and clean clothes there.

i think, perhaps this is a thinly veiled attempt to keep homeless people of the city buses. the civil liberties union is already interested so if they pass it i believe it will get challenged. especially the first time a disabled person gets on the bus with a service animal that needs a bath. lawsuit fun in hawaii!

I don't know...if they included liberal application of perfume, they might have something. But that could be because I live so close to the college and the only two smells on the bus to the college are alcohol and morning-after...

Ladies, years (and not that many) deodorant wasn't as well applied, here, as today. Factor that in with 80+ heat, high humidity, no air conditioning, and a diet high in garlic and I'll guarantee you that you don't have to be homeless to raise a stink!

BTW, you MAY get me onto the metro but never on a bus!

Dudes, it's public transportation. You get what you don't pay for. You're riding with your fellow "I don't have a car either" group.

And that means they (sure not me) have to ride with the "I-haven't-taken-a-bath-this-week" group?

Question: What happens when the A/C breaks down on the bus? Does everyone get to participate in the fining fun?

Also, does too much perfume count as smelling too bad? Because we all know how it is when 10 women each have their own body spray...
