Expat -- we had some complaints about parts of the site being NSFW because of images posted in the comments. So because WU is supposed to be SFW, we decided to reduce the titillation factor and yank the images. And faced with the choice of going through all 6000 pages of comments and vetting the images one-by-one, or just turning off all the images en masse, I went with the latter option, because I'm lazy, and because from a security standpoint it gives the spammers one less avenue to exploit. We were hoping no one would really notice, but you did!
