Granny Hulk

At the age of 69, Sharie Mobley recently broke the all-time world record in the deadlift for her class/division by lifting 305 pounds. This has earned her the nickname Granny Hulk.

She only started weight training when she was 60, saying that she “couldn’t sit around and do normal granny things.”

She reminds me of Betty Goedhart, the 86-year-old trapeze artist.

Once, for reason I'll never truly understand, I actually listened to the misguided ramblings of my doctor and started exercising regularly. Every day after work, I'd hit the gym and was bench-pressing right at two-twenty, two-twenty-five (okay, so sometimes I would run late, and it was two-thirty or even a quarter to three). Did that for four solid months. No improvement in my chronic pain, stamina, or blood pressure. Serious hurt to my bank balance.

I thought you were referring to the amount you were benching, and was impressed, until I read the part in the brackets.

Um . . . yeah, that's kind of the intended effect.

Another one is: the last horse I bet on went off at five-to-two and came in at a quarter after three.
