It took a stakeout to find out the mama of a family of elks could open a barn door to get to the hay inside. Clever girl.

Those are moose, not elk. Note the lanky legs and the hump on the back. Moose:)

Toodlegs, the animal called a moose in North America is referred to as an elk in Europe.

I remember a story or two, while living in Minneapolis / St. Paul, of moose following the river bottom and ending up within city limits. Rounding them up and relocating them usually did the trick of keeping them out of trouble in the future. As far as intelligence goes, I was under the impression that they were about as smart as most large herbivores, say on par with a horse.
