I just thought about another version of the pessimist boy and his optimist brother. When Mom went to see the boys, she went to the optimist boy first, saw him searching around his pile of manure, and heard him say "I'm sure there's a poney somewhere". Then she went to the pessimist boy's room with all the toys, saw him grumpy, and asked him why he was grumpy with all those toys around him. "My brother had a pony for his birthday, and all I got was this junk!"
