Lodi Grape Festival Queen

Here is the first holder of the honor.

Read article here.

The festival continues to this day, but I find no reference to a queen.

That's my hometown! The festival was, during my formative years, the biggest event for the year. One year I participated in the parade through town, wearing a lion costume in keeping with the theme of "The Wizard Of Oz", chosen by the Fire Department Ladies Auxillary= don't ask why since it had nothing to do with grapes.

Those kind of childhood memories are irreplaceable, KDP!

Did the scarecrow sing "If I Only Had a Grape?"

I enjoy reading about all these festivals that featured a contest with a queen (or Miss Whatever) being crowned for a year. (It just now reminded me now of that old TV game show, Queen For A Day.) I wonder if any of these regional celebrations ever crowned a king, too.

KDP,

Did they have flying monkeys? If so the years would have been even more formative.
