very cool sweetie. my dad had a tv business in the late '60s to early '70s and he used to let me check vacuum tubes on a tube tester. the tester was about the size of an arcade video game and had plug ins for the tubes. it would light up if the tube was good i think. it was a long time ago. if dad would have lived i'd be an electrician, because i always wanted to do whatever dad did and he would have taught me. he was patient like that. do you work on old electronics?

Right now I just collect electronics, along with anything else old and interesting, but I can diagnose simple problems on my own depending on what they are. I want to learn more about electronics, with the ultimate goal of finding and building a Heathkit TV, but I have a lot of other things to worry about, like reading that 1955 Encyclopedia Britannica that I found at a thrift store for $5...

But on the more serious side, I have to focus a lot of my time on college, since I am a traditional animation major (you didn't think Salamander Sam was my real name, did you?), which is hard work, plus those Popular Science articles on Google Books aren't going to read themselves.

you are a man of many intrests and talents then. my dad learned electronics by mail order courses because he had to change professions due to having a heart condition. he couldn't be a truck driver anymore. that stuff(the old electronics) is fascinating, i wish i still had some of dad's equipment. unfortunately mom had to sell it to provide for us(3 kids).
animation major huh? are there other applications for that besides the obvious? what do you want to do? hey, if i get too personal just tell me. i'm just interested. you seem like a great kid. sorry, young man, i'm old enough to be your mom so that's where i'm coming from.

There aren't really any "applications" for traditional animation anymore, I just like it, specifically the old Warner Brothers shorts.
