Museum Under The Sea

'The Collector' is one of 400 cement sculptures being sunk off the coast of Cancun by the end of 2010. It is hoped that coral will grow on the sculptures over time, making them even more beautiful and fascinating to see. The pupose of this Mexican subaquatic museum is to draw tourists away from visiting the natural coral reefs to minimize damage to them.

Updated with many thanks to pablo.

i couldn't turn the picture, don't know if it can be turned as it appears this way at the link too. it weighs 4 tons and is sunk and anchored 8 meters down. it would be neat to dive there and swim amongst the sculptures after thay are all there.

exactly expat, you know most of the tourists are gonna see both. maybe the money they make from this could go into genetic research of the coral polyps to find a way to increase the natural production of coral by these animals.
