I would have assumed it was a device to see through pretty ladies’ clothes. Because what else is worth inventing?

No interference except from fog, snow and rain.

Interesting though, coming before stimulated emission was developed.

I think the interference they meant was radio jamming.

Until fairly recently, you could buy walkie-talkie sets which use the same principle (and maybe you still can, I just haven't seen them in a while). The disadvantages are obvious, but it'd be very expensive to reproduce the benefits using radio frequencies.
