I was no where near the correct answer! I thought it was a tool for retrieving bolts and nuts a such that may fall into an engine compartment.

The humane thing to do to your catch is to kill it immediately, eat it, and not catch more than you need. Catching fish for "sport" isn't sport, it's torture.
