Barometer, I thought, since it appears to have a diaphragm. But now I see the gauge has a 0-400 scale, so it would have to be for use in the Martian atmosphere.

I answered the questions correctly, but I was still wrong -- I thought it was a Rockwell hardness tester. It being a Brinell never crossed my mind.

I'm sure that, at some point over the years, I was made aware of the Brinell test, but I'm just as sure I never used it. On the other hand, I nearly bought a Rockwell tester -- at an industrial auction, I reached a point where I realized the other guy wanted it no matter what, and my continued bidding was just costing him money, so I dropped out. It wasn't until after he won that I learned he'd brought only so much cash with him, and my next bid would have been more than he had.
