Official fog watchers

I don't know why, but this seems like a very British type of job.

That looks like the fog conditions where I grew up in the Central Valley of California. From December to February the fog can settle in for days where the sun is just a yellow dot moving across the sky. It makes for dangerous driving and pileups on the freeways are not uncommon. Strangely enough, if you travel east to the foothills and gain about 200 foot elevation, the conditions are clear.
