Oriental Rock

One plus for Haley: does not rhyme "fella" with "yella."

I think ½ of Bill's "Oriental" is a bit too far West to be "yella". Egypt, Arabia, etc. come to mind (or ear as it were).

Although modern geographical thinking places the Orient in far east Asia, it originally meant any region east of Europe. Of course, Haley is doing pop music, hence the stereotyped middle eastern style of the song.

One of my favorites is Spike's treatment of "oriental" style music.

Slightly off topic: Bear Family has done some incredible compilations over the years. If anyone here is a Johnny Cash fan (and who isn't?) their "Man In Black" compilations are exhaustive and of supreme quality. 16 CDs, exhaustive notation and the highest quality transfers I've heard. Not cheap, but well worth owning.

Expat: I agree, parts of it distinctly remind me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wcze7EGorOk.
