What he said he swallowed on a bet: 13 safety razors complete with blades, 21 nails, a fountain pen, a pencil, 56 toothbrushes, 20 chop sticks, a piece of wire netting, and part of the ribs of an umbrella.

I doubt he ate these things on a bet. I'm guessing he suffered from acuphagia (the compulsion to eat sharp metal objects).
