Ran Aground

The Costa Concordia, an Italian cruise ship ran aground on the Italian island Giglio. The damage was enough to start the ship sinking and precipitate an evacuation. I'm thinking somebody's in trouble.

Too bad Kate wasn't on this one. At least she would have been news worthy for something.

Interesting contrast between the photo for this post and the one previous, as I said there I'd sooner go to sea in a leaky dixie cup!

This type stuff is pretty common over here there although loss of life is rare. There is just so much ferry and cruise traffic to around the Med and then they keep trying to get these big boats into those small island harbors.

The story is not necessarily weird but the picture is cool.

Let me guess: Sylvio Berlusconi decided she should go down.

As a lifelong sailor I'd wager that this wreck was caused by either human error or over reliance on GPS.
On one occasion while navigating the inter-coastal waterway in North Carolina the GPS said that I was driving the boat up onto the shore then back into the water! Thankfully it was clear weather on a sunny day! If it had been at night in bad weather/limited visibility I might well have driven onto the opposite shore to avoid the "hazard"! 🐛

@ BD (BrokeDad) Just to be clear the first US Navy Female WARSHIP Captain was HOLLY GRAF.
How did she do?, NOT well! In the link it tells how when her crew THOUGHT she had run the ship aground (thus ending her career) they broke into song. What song? Ding Dong the witch is dead!
It also calls her the navy's female captain Bligh! She was relieved of command for mistreating her crew! :coolsmirk:

@ Raph People have always made jokes in the face of tragedy! It's called dark humor. You can either laugh or go insane as the saying goes!
P.S. Why doesn't Costa cruise line ships have tubs or showers aboard?
They figure the passengers will wash-up on shore!
