Read with Discernment

If you decide to shop for books at LifeWay Christian Stores, you may notice that some of the books are marked Read with Discernment. This label is to warn you that these books "may have espoused thoughts, ideas, or concepts that could be considered inconsistent with historical evangelical theology."

Presumably, if a book hasn't been so tagged, everything in it can be accepted blindly without discernment.

Some of the books marked Read with Discernment include Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith, Searching for God Knows What, and Sex God. They sound pretty heretical to me! (via Friendly Atheist)

Sex God: "God and sex go together."
Well my husband IS a sex god so I guess that's true in a sense.

I was looking at a few other books and I will not comment for fear of offending anyone. Let's just say that homophobia runs rampant. oops.

i'm glad i didn't hit the link then agfh. gay bashing pisses me off big time. you kinda got to respect the fact that they carry such books though, most religious fanatics burn books they don't agree with. maybe there is hope yet.

From the Southern Baptist I would expect homophobia.

The fact that they are selling books that they don't endorse could be read as either:

A. them having an open mind (highly doubtful), or

B. they are willing to except money for anything they can get away with selling from a christian bookstore.

You can guess which one I think.

You want to hear some psychotic baptist rantings? Google "Westborough Baptist Church" - those are the people that protest funerals...they're all nut jobs.

I've noticed that every time I saunter past one of these stores the books in the window start to smoke. I don't know what would happen if I walked in.

C.A. - Nobody is above being bashed here. The reason I bashed them was because they should distribute (not sell) books that are in line with what they teach. If they have to put a disclaimer on anything then why are they selling it? It shows that they are not concerned with your soul but with making money. To me that makes them hypocrites!

BTW - What is wrong with reading all books?
