Star Wars Celica GT

Back in 1977, as a stunt to help promote the opening of Star Wars, Toyota created a custom Star Wars Celica GT. Then they raffled off the car. Somebody won it, but nobody knows who. The fate of this car has become something of an obsession among fans of the movie. Was it destroyed? Is it still sitting in a garage somewhere? The mystery endures...

If it is stashed away in someones garage, I'd like to thank them for not inflicting it further upon the world. Why do people think that a tasteless paint job and some plastic gewgaws improves a car?

Several companies (like CarFax) are linked the DMV database in every state. It seems to me if someone were really interested and had the right connections, they could search for title transfers for the make/model in the month(s) following the contest, and once they had the VIN number, do a global search of all subsequent transfers.

I doubt it was kept pristine because if it was, someone would have it on display. If it was found in a junkyard and needed a paint job and new decals, would it still be of interest (Ship of Theseus paradox)?
