I'd like to know what became of the boy when he grew up. I hope he is well adjusted and happy now.

Always sad to read stories of this sort of neglect - at least this child had the dog.

I don' t know if I buy this... I can't find much supporting information on the child, the location or anything else. While there's a doctor of a similar name, I didn't find any published papers about this incident. You'd think something as unusual as this would merit a scientific paper.

I don't think it is that science worthy. Female animals will take care of whatever infants happen to be around at the time. My aunt's dogs and cats regularly 'baby sat' each other's critters and there are plenty of such stories about.
