The Artesian Tree

I can find no fuller account of this miracle. No doubt it was bulldozed long ago.

ADDENDUM: I just did the obvious and visited the address given via Google Streetview. No sign of the fabled tree, alas. See screenshot in extended.

Oh I don't know. Might have grown over a yard spigot or sprinkler & the pipe finally rusted out? Otherwise my thought would go to all the ground water pumping for the city. Maybe a hook worm survivor cut it off to try and make a bottling plant? So much forgotten history.

Your screenshot is the wrong address -- you have 1369 instead of 1669. Try 1654 -- there is a tree there -- doesn't look special, but there is a tree all by itself.
