Patrick--good point about the continuing existence of beauty contests for teens. But those modern affairs, I figure, pay some lip service at least to other talents and qualities for the contestants, rather than sheer physical attractiveness alone, which seemed to be the entire rationale for Lux.

Go to any small-town parade on Thanksgiving, the Fourth of July or Memorial Day, and you’ll see plenty of “Little Miss” and “Miss Teen” beauty contest winners.
