I want one! A bargain at $242,000.

I've always loved those beasts! It's like you wanted a great power source you could take anywhere and decided to hook the wheels to the engine as an afterthought so you wouldn't have to tow it. And portal axles! Who doesn't love portal axles?

Basically, if there isn't a Unimog attachment for the job you want to do, it probably isn't real work. Window washing to well-digging, and forty-seven different types of plows. Haul anything that fits on the bed, and you'll want to carry at least a couple of tons everywhere just to smooth out the ride.

Not in a hurry to get to work? It varies by model, but super-granny-low on some is around four hundred feet per hour. Start backing out of your driveway, jump out, run into the house, take a fast shower, grab some breakfast, and you can catch up to it before it reaches the street. I don't even want to think about how many ft-lbs of torque you're getting.

I like the observation about carrying a few tons of cargo to smooth out the ride, Phideaux. I used to work for a vintner who had a WWII Dodge Power Wagon 2.5 ton truck for use around the fields. It didn't go all that fast but it would pull a railroad loco out of a mud pit if that was needed to be done.
