Trampling Treatment

1983: Dr. Huang Xianjian's 'trampling treatment' for lumbago sufferers consisted of "climbing on top of the bed and jumping up and down on their backs."

It reminds me of the "impact therapy" we posted about a while back which involved hitting patients with 20-pound sandbags.

I had a lot of back problems growing up, and MDs would only do cortisone and/or traction, which were nearly useless. So from a young age, I went to chiropractors. This was back in the day when they actually did something, and one treatment would usually set me right for weeks/months (versus the one or two days of relief from shots or being strung up).

By the time I was in high school, I was sort of a big guy, and my favorite chiropractor was a little old man who'd not aged well. Towards the end, he'd have to kneel on my back while pulling on my neck. Very inelegant, but it worked.

I saw on a Facebook page a Youtube video (or maybe a Rutube video) of a Russian man being treated for a back ache by some kind of doctor with a mallet. The sound went more or less like this "Tak, tak, tak, Ow...tak, tak, tak, tak, ow....tak, OW! SomethinginRussian tak, tak, tak, ow... tak, tak, ow... tak, ow, ow, ow, ow, OW! OW! OW! SOMETHINGINRUSSIAN! Tak, tak, Ow... tak, tak, tak, ow...tak, tak, somethinginRussian...tak, ow. Aaah."
