Tsongsul, or Feces Wine

According to rocketnews24.com, there's a Korean drink called Tsongsul, which translates as "feces wine." It's made by mixing oven-baked feces (chicken, dog, or human) with distilled grain alcohol. Some medicinal herbs and cat bones are thrown in as well. Then the whole evil concoction is left to ferment for 3 to 4 months.

People drink this in the hope that it'll cure whatever illness they might have, not for fun. However, I can't find any sources that independently confirm there really is such a drink, but Korean sources are hard to check. So I'm going to take their word for it.

This wine might pair nicely with urine bread!

rocketnews also has a photo series of a bunch of women actually drinking this stuff.

And how about a nice cup of civet coffee to finish up with?

Korean cuisine is based on the premise that nothing tastes so bad that fermenting it in the ground for a few months won't make it worse.
A friend of mine (a Korean War vet) *still* cannot stand to smell kim chee without puking.
Come to think of it, I wonder if the Koreans have tried fermented puke...

One man's meat is another man's poison.

In this case, it's my poison.

How about pairing it with the saliva noodles we saw here on wu and an eskimo delicacy called stink fin that Tyrusguy can tell you all about.

I don't understand... they get these girls to drink the stuff and, afterwords, the girls still look the same and, worse yet, are still fully clothed. What's this stuff supposed to be good for again?

Stink flipper, sorry sweetie, the memory is not what it used to be.
Expat, do you really want to make out with a woman with that on her breath ? Reguardless of how pretty she is??

@ KDP - I prefer the saying: "One man's nightmare is another man's wet dream".
An early NW passage explorer was meeting with an Inuit. The Inuit offered fermented seal meat. The explorer offered cheddar cheese. They both agreed that they tasted almost the same! I read it in a history based book, but I have no proof.
Personally, I don't want the morning after sh!t taste in my mouth to be sh!t taste in my mouth!

Wow now this is really interesting because I know that the Korean culture loves to ferment things like black garlic. They place the garlic into the clay pots for months then it comes out of the clove all black but the amazing thing is that it tastes SWEET! And is actually good for your immune system. So there could be some truth to this story however I am not saying that. I believe it needs to be investigate more and find some Korean sources that could either confirm or deny.... Very interesting conversation starter for sure
