Urine-Powered Mobile Phone Charger

Urine-powered batteries have been around a long time, but have been lacking in practical applications. But now researchers at the Bristol Robotics Laboratory have souped one up enough to get it to charge a mobile phone. Looks a bit big, but if they could shrink it down enough to fit in a briefcase, you'd never run out of juice.

Maybe they can scale it up and sell it to that magic pee-pee factory in India....

After a promotion, I was once told "Urine charge here."

Urine is only the electrolyte... pretty much any acidic water based solution can function as the electrolyte (lemon juice, tomato juice etcetera).

I, for one, would much prefer to have a lemon juice battery than a pee battery!

I prefer to use batteries where I don't have to take a leak to use.

I use a simple solar cell panel to charge a battery that can then quick charge all my devices if needed. It even works great under the lights at work. I don't want a pee cell like the rest of you.

If you are going to use this system then it makes better financial sense to use pee. Other electrolyte fluids must be bought so it would make sense to drink them since we need to drink anyway. The the natural waste we generate would have a use. That said, I'd rather have regular old batteries myself too.

I don't think this will work. I tested this empirically, by dropping mine in the toilet once, the battery didn't recharge.
