I remember the jingle, though not this particular ad. I'm guessing it dates from the late 1960's.

Am I the only one old enough to still use the term "VD" ? (or maybe my entire vocabulary is antiquated seeing as how I left the States almost 50 years ago)

Since I remember this from my childhood I'd say early to mid-70's. 1973 is the year that comes to mind, when I was in 3rd grade and asked my mother what VD was, since I'd heard about it on TV. She was not amused.

Brewet: Did your mother tell you "Valentines Day"?
I ask, because I once received a homemade valentine card that said "Happy VD".

1969 according to this: https://publicdomainreview.org/collection/vd-is-for-everybody-1969/

I remember when I was in 6th or 7th grade, kids used to giggle at the number 69. I suspect very few of them knew its significance (I certainly didn't).

@ ges : At about that age we thought it was really cool that we were going to be the (high school) class of 69. We didnĀ“t have a clue either.

One of my older sister's friends told me that when someone mentioned 69, I should ask them: "Do you know what 68 is?" (The answer is: "It's like 69, but I'll owe you one.")

I was like eleven or twelve (and would prove to be a late bloomer), so I had no idea what any of it meant, but I did so love the reaction when I told that joke. Probably only able to use it four or five times, but each one was precious.

I'm not sure exactly when VD transformed into STD. I consider it unfortunate because it's the first thing which comes to people's mind when you mention STPD which makes you more-or-less-safe from STDs.

Patrick,
No, it was about then that we had "The Talk", which was a few years earlier than she'd planned. Before she could tell me what VD was, I suppose she felt she had to tell me what the "V" part meant. At that age, although I knew what she meant I really had no idea what she was talking about. That came several years later with a girl named Tina...

Big "I got it from Agnes" vibes.
