Vegan Gets Pied!

Even though this particular vegan under assault has apparently come over to the bacon-lover's camp, it's still good to see a vegan made to answer for the sins of their hideous lifestyle.

vegans do not eat any animal products, even if they don't result in the death of the animal. so no dairy, i doubt the most militant ones even eat gelatin becuase the thickening agent is derived from hooves. how strict the diet is dependant upon the idividual. the truely nutty ones are like the extreme pro-life nuts who defend life by killing doctors. those extreme vegans don't care about human life, only the animals. extremists are usually dangerous no matter what the extreme they are devoted too. moderation in all things

Did I read that right? This happened at an Anarchist book fair? That makes this even more hilarious. I can't even imagine such a thing. Do the anarchists wander around by themselves and just take whatever books they feel like reading, or do they set aside their anarchism for a day to go to one of the structured, conformist conference that they hate so much?

@ Patty -

You are right about the gelatin. As you may have guessed, I am also into film photography, and you wouldn't believe how many vegans on websites like Flickr keep bringing up the fact that film is made with gelatin (which is a byproduct in this case, meaning the animal was killed for food or leather anyway). One person recently asked if there were any "vegan films" that they could use, apparently not realizing that making film without gelatin would require an incredibly expensive retooling, basically reinventing film from the ground up just to satisfy a crazed minority. Eventually some people just told them to switch to collodion (wet plate), since it doesn't need any gelatin (for those of you who don't know, collodion is only for serious photographers, as it requires you to mix up your own emulsions from basic chemicals, polish glass plates until they are spotless, then evenly coat the plate with chemicals, put it in the camera, make a minutes long exposure, and then develop it immediately, all in total darkness, all within half an hour. Back when it was still popular photographers would use light tight tents, but now many of them use custom vans or only photograph near their homes. Needless to say, this is certainly way too much for someone who is likely only using film for its current "coolness" factor).

On the other hand, just as much animal products are used to build a digital camera (or practically any other product we use today), so unless you are willing to move to a jungle and cut off any ties to the modern world, hardcore veganism doesn't work (and then there is the argument I like to bring up: "So, you don't want to kill animals, but you are perfectly willing to kill poor defenseless plants? They can't even run away!").

Bacon Cream Pie - I'd say make a filling like for a Pecan Pie, top it with Brown Sugar Candied Bacon, and top that with a Maple Whipped Cream.
