confused seniors

Confusion reigns: seniors out of control
(1) An 88-yr-old man, trying not to bother anyone, drove blissfully down Interstate 80 near North Platte, Neb., Tuesday night, cheerfully waving to cops who were trying to focus him on the fact that he was on the wrong side of the highway (i.e., in the passing lane of oncoming traffic). He only got the message after about 40 miles. (2) A 77-yr-old woman in Port Orange, Fla., first vandalized a church by hand but then hopped in her car and drove through the center of town, at about 5 p.m., sending pedestrians scattering (and chasing one woman and her dogs into a downtown lake) and leading a slow-speed chase by cops. She resisted all efforts to stop her (e.g., three flat tires from police spike strips) but was finally subdued (it took 5 cops) and hospitalized. Omaha World-Herald /// Daytona Beach News-Journal

Some people may not agree with me, but I think you should have to take a driving test every year once you reach 70. Not a written, a real DRIVING test.

When in the @$#$@ did North Platte, Neb move to The "F" State?

Sorry AGFH, what you propose would be stomping on the individual rights of our Sr. Citizens and, as we all know, the rights of the individual come first over the rights of the whole.

Expat: That's pretty crappy. Things like this happen all the time here. They scare the pants off of me. I just love when they dribble out of a parkinglot into mad a$$ traffic like no one is coming. And they are forever hitting buildings because they "stepped on the wrong pedal."
Not long ago I followed an old guy out of the corner store parking lot. He hit the curb twice, veered from lane to lane, ran a stop sign, barely missed running into the back of a car at the stop light, then drove down the wrong side of the road after going through the light. I was soooo glad I was BEHIND him!

"'You're going the wrong way!'
'They say were going the wrong way.'
'How do they know where we're going?'
'Yeah, how do they know where we're going?'
'You're going to KILL somebody!'"

Cue John Candy in the Devil costume.
😝

And the other one sounds like "Buzzbomb from Pasadena" by the Dead Kennedys.

AGFH, you shouldn't have stayed behind the old dude. You could have stopped you know.

Expat, I stayed far enough back to be well able to stop if he hit anything or stopped for no reason. I was seriously afraid I was going to witness a crash, but he turned off before I had to.

Sorry, CanUKgirl, here in Greece the right-of-way goes to the dude with the largest, ah...., well, parts of the male anatomy that are not polite to talk about in mixed company. Many's the day my 2 wheels have taken on 16.

BTW, that's no brag it's just that the style of driving here is offensive not defensive. Drive defensively over here and die for it!

My pet peeve is the ignorance of the yellow light. It means STOP, people! It really does.

I aree with the mandatory testing every few years. I've been nearly hit by many drivers who shouldn't be on the road.

CanUKgirl, a 4 way what?

I've got a 5 way intersection two blocks from my house which is a 3 way stop with one one-way and two two-way streets leading into the intersection with stop signs and a two-way street with the right-of-way that turns into a one way after the intersection. Some day I'll have to do videos of the traffic flow.

Oh... forgot to mention. The cars running one of the stop signs have the right of way unless the bus that runs one of the other stop signs gets to the intersection first. The 3rd stop sign must wait until everybody else has gone their way.

AGFH,

I don't think there is a human alive who doesn't agree with that. How many old ladies have driven through the windows of convenience stores????
