Maybe it's my Midwestern/middle-class upbringing, but this would be practical only because I'd die from embarrassment if anyone saw such a thing in my home.

A couch that converts to a bed is not unusual. But using the same item for that final sleep is over the top.

Practical for guests. Unexpected guests? Use the couch. Drunk guests? You have a bed ready. Surprise heart attack or hockey tournament? Instant storage space!
