inert grenades

Daily update on the Transportation Suckurity Administration
TSA lacks confidence in its agents' individual judgments and so prescribes zero-tolerance-type rules. Trying to get an agent to exercise a little common sense is usually useless; they're paid to enforce rules, not bend them. Well . . except this time at JFK in New York, when an agent found two grenades in a passenger's baggage but let him go through, anyway. No problem, the agent explained. He checked the grenades, and to him, they looked inert. Fox News

Having common sense and working for the TSA is mutually exclusive.

Not offended here I just don't who the TSA has on 'Suckurity'. Can you help a brother out and just tell me? I can be thick sometimes.

Coming back from Egypt last year, absentmindedly packed my moisturizer and toothpaste in my carryon. I had a short, cheerful argument with the TSA guy (seriously, he was very sweet), but in the end, he confiscated them, along with my shampoo. Then he happily went on his way, secure in the knowledge that he'd done his job. Of course, if he'd have dug down through one more layer of dirty clothes, he would have found 8 small bottles of Egyptian perfume, that were wrapped rather suspiciously. Glad to know we're being kept safe from shampoo!

This phenomenon is not unique to the US. Last year in Dusseldorf I watched the security agents (2 of them) paw through an old woman's (80+?) carry-on that was jam packed full of bottles, boxes, and tubes of cosmetics and beauty products. The finally took one (that's one as in 1) tube, closed the case and allowed here to go on her way!!!!
