Playing With Your Food?

This is pretty cool footage of dogs and polar bears playing together, but I really expected to see a feeding frenzy.

The guy says the bears stay 70 feet from him or he shoots warning shots. If I was one of the dogs, I'd want to skip the chain.

This reminds me of me playing with my dogs: everyone knows who is going to win if it comes down to actual blood-letting, and since both polar bears and dogs are hunters, neither side wants to expend the capital necessary to actually fight; this is more of a warm-up wrestle. Note the bears practicing swatting dinner. Note the dogs practicing grabbing big dinner by the snout (or else begging Mom to regurgitate, your call).
On the other hand, watching my dogs and my parrots interact (they always have bars between them unless a human has badly messed up) is a respect of equals: everyone, canine, avian and human, knows that one good bite in any direction, and it's all over; at least two ER visits will be required. The dogs practice stalking prey, the birds practice evading predators. Everyone works very hard at remembering this is only a game, even if OPFOR is capable of using live ammo. Incidentally, the birds will drop food to the dogs, quite deliberately. It's food the birds don't want, and the dogs don't really like it, but it looks and tastes like people food, maybe it will keep the humans remembering that other folks like people food, even if it's not always good for them.

Hint: If a polar bear wants to play with you and has already gotten that close you should exhibit happiness and cheerfully fulfill it's every wish.

or....

Might as well enjoy it while <strike>it lasts</strike> you last.
