reborn dolls

Grown women go all-in, playing with dolls
"Reborns" are ultra-realistic baby dolls that women cuddle, dress up, take to the park in strollers, etc., so they can play the role of mom, but without the diapers and the savings account for college. It's "not a crazy habit," one said, like "drinking." ABC News found a shrink at NYU who thinks it's OK as long as, y'know, you keep it in check. ABC News

So if they are taking them out in public, what do their neighbors think about babies who never get any bigger and never make a sound?
And the lady who had 7 miscarriages, I would think that after 3 tops you would see that as a sign.
Looking at BikerPuppy's link: Those are creepy! They look embalmed!!1

Years ago, I worked as a window installer for residential houses. I showed up at this old, old lady's house one day to put in a sliding glass door. The woman, who was probably in her 80's even though she dressed like a teen, wore about 3 inches (that's 76.2 MM for you metric people) of makeup, making her look like a wax figure. When I walked into her house, I quickly noticed dolls all over the place. These were about 3 foot (91.44 CM) tall and made to look like little girls. What made it creepy was the way they were situated around the house. She had them sitting on the sofa and love seat (one spot was open for her) as though they were watching TV with her. She also had some around the table so that she wouldn't have to eat alone. Well, I got that door put in in record time and got the hell outa there. I felt sorry for her but also creeped out by her.

Do any of you read lovelylisting.blogspot.com? It shows poorly chosen photos in online real estate ads. There was a run of entries on the blog that showed ads with dolls everywhere, just like what Maxx describes. Very creepy. BTW, the blog is excellent, and I highly recommend it (once you're done getting your weirdness at WU twice a day).

These babies look like they were "born" somewhere in the uncanny valley.

And some shrink thinks this is OK? I think somebody needs to shrink the shrink!

BikerPuppy: I can see that blog becoming my new obsession. I went through the entire site last night.
