Death-row inmate angles, maybe, for a public service award?
Richard Cooey, 41, scheduled to go belly-up next month in Ohio, is suing the prison because he's fat, and his veins are hard to get at, and thus he can only be executed painfully. And, he says, the only reason he's challenging is to preserve the Constitution's ban on "cruel" punishment. "If it would make people happy, shoot me in the head with a .45," because that would be quick and painless, but (we can imagine his argument going) we must honor and nurture our Constitutional guarantees. I thought prisoners were provided with the opportunity to exercise? Wouldn't it then be his own fault that he's fat? And, by the way, it's definitely his own fault he's in jail!

Ummm...the Constitution only bans a punishment that is "cruel and unusual." It has to meet BOTH requirements to be prohibited.

I weigh more than this guy (but I'm eight inches taller). Can I go on a killing spree?

I get so tired of this crap. "Wahhhh, I shouldn't be executed for the crimes I committed because you can't find my veins." What about what you did in raping and murdering two people?? They didn't get any choice in what happened to them. We are WAYYYY too easy on prisoners nowadays.

Pehaps "No Country for Old Men" offers us an alternative solution.

at first I thought this was the "Lundsford" Cooey then I read the article. Execution is never humane. I'm sure he killed his victims he observed their constitutional rights. I say hang him by his nuts and pass out the bats.

Fine. Shoot him like he wants, then. What's the problem? I'm sure it'd be cheaper.

The healine says he "angles", but if he's so fat how could he have any angles? Wouldn't he be rounded? Just asking.

Can we trade with the UK? maybe he can go play video games and we can kill some serial killer?

Zapp the guy, put him in the gas chamber.. If he wants a firing squad give it to him.

I'm waiting for the inmate who is too fat to leave his cell to be executed.

David said: "the Constitution only bans a punishment that is "cruel and unusual." It has to meet BOTH requirements to be prohibited."

But, because of the unceasing work of the ACLU, it is unusual for capital punishment to be unduly cruel.

"If it would make people happy, shoot me in the head with a .45,"

Actually, since being shot in the head is not particularly cruel (messy yes, cruel no), nor, by any stretch of the imagination, unusual, why isn't execution by gunshot allowed in states with capital punishment?

Just to throw politics in where they dont belong... KW, thats awfully harsh for a good democrat! I really think we should let his fat arse waste more tax dollars. In fact we should pay for him to get gastric bypass and then let him live anyhow.
