The Punt Gun

An uncle of Grandma P, named Captain A.H. Borgardus, was known as a world-class "wing shot" champion. Today we would know the sport as "skeet." However, he and his sons made their living during the last quarter of the 19th century as market hunters, which explains the Captain's proficiency with a shotgun. I doubt that the Captain ever used a punt gun but during my searches for information I've come across references to these engines of mass bird slaughter. I've always wondered what firing one looked like. 🐛
