I don't miss it. I had to grow up in that culture as a California Native. I thought that every one who spoke with that "accent" was brain-dead. Considering what California has become, I think I was pretty much on the mark.

That said, Gary Trudeau did a spot on take on the whole phenomenon of "California Speak" in a "Doonesbury" panel. Doonesbury and Zonker are having a discussion about how compact a Californian can make a long passage of poetry become. Doonesbury recites a description of the moonrise over a pastoral setting - the beauty and serenity of the rising and how it illuminates the landscape. Probably a total of thirty five words are used.

Zonker cuts it down to six words: "Wow, man. Look at the moon!"

I must have missed this along the way in my cultural education, Just what is a Valley Girl? Now mind you I have lived much of my life in remote locations with out access to TV or cable, except when traveling when I'm generally disgusted with what I see in airports or motel rooms, except the Playboy channel.

@Expat .. you know the Greek national anthem has 158 verses. How many times can you sing we're f**cked ??

Ah, but you don't understand the power in having been loaned way, way too much money. The Greeks are now in a position to tell the IMF, Germany, et al to go urinate up a rope and that they'll get their money in due course as it comes available once this 'austerity' bullsh1t is off the table and the Greek economy is allowed to function.

Greece's worst enemy, right now, is overbearing socialism that has been out of control ever since that a$$hole Papandreou came back after the junta was ousted. We've got a 23% sales tax, income tax, and murderous property taxes and more. In 2013 we paid 110% of my wife's expensive, state mandated retirement in taxes.

So, if the current PTB gets smart they'll just tell the rest of Europe to back off then quit stifling the economy with over taxation they can pull out of this in a couple of years.

BTW, I'm not sure about the 158 verses I've only heard 2 and that was rare. You sure you're not thinking about That Good Ole Mountain Dew? (or maybe having partook of a bit too much?)

If you want to listen to a valley girl. This is by Frank Zappa...Funny thing, my son and I saw Dweezil Zappa this past Thursday night in a Zappa plays Zappa show. They did the entire album "One Size Fits All", and a whole lot more. Two and a half hours of non stop Zappa music!

@KDP: Grew up in the valley myself. Fortunately, I was older than most of the "Val's" and didn't have to interact with many. Oh how we did like to make fun of them though.
