Wake up with bacon

Last year, gdanea reported on WU that Oscar Mayer was offering bacon gifts for father's day. Now Oscar Mayer is back in the news with an iPhone attachment that functions as an alarm clock by waking you with the smell of bacon. Details at wakeupandsmellthebacon.com. They've created a slightly surreal video to promote the gadget.

A clock that wakes you with the smell of bacon isn't an entirely original idea. Back in 2009, Matty Sallin designed a clock that would wake you by actually cooking bacon.

This is easy to make using e-cig technology.

I'm not sure what compound you'd use -- e-cig flavorings usually don't have much of an odor, but I don't know if that's because almost everything is absorbed before exhale.

I've vaped bacon-flavor. To me, it was like, "yeah, I recognize it" -- not exactly awesome and not something I'd go out of my way to use.

Google "bacon flavored e-cig" and you'll find a lot of companies make/sell it.

An interesting concept to be sure. I'm not going out and buy an Apple phone just to get the effect, though.

If this odor emitting tech had existed thirty years ago, I had roommates who would have substituted noxious odors for a laugh.

Oh that will happen eventually KDP. Don't think I'd want my cell phone smelling like bacon anyway.
