More Things to Worry About on Tuesday
It's official: Fat people, particularly, face the buffet while they're eating, take tables closer to it, and don't much care what else is on the table once they fix on a dish they like . . . . . Slow news day: How about those chastity belts for male goats? . . . . . The Georgia Supreme Court ruled that a transsexual politician did not commit election fraud by failing to disclose that she used to be a man . . . . . At Dallas's last-resort hospital (Parkland Memorial), a guy died after 19 hrs in the waiting room (164 people ahead of him) . . . . . Another one of those "why isn't he dead yet?" blood-alcohol readings (.491). Today's Newsrangers: Joe Littrell, Rae Augenstein, Emmitt Dove.

Big Gary, I hear you and agree that our nation's hospitals and health care system is, and has been, in dire financial straits. Our family doctor took down his shingle because he couldn't afford to pay the malpractice insurance while keeping the charges to his patients reasonable. And this was over 30 years ago. My suggestion for a solution is shoot the lawyers.

Now, about the guy that wrote the article about the goats: "age-old contraceptive device" made out of plastic doesn't quite seem to fit. Then there's the bit about "bucks". Aren't male goats Billy's and females Nanny's?

Expat, I appreciate the sentiment behind your solution to our health care woes. Can you please at least spare those of us who don't get involved in litigation?

Yeah, it's a shame in this Mirror World we live in that a person can wait 19 hours for an essential service, but those employees who ate at the restaurant would not likely wait 19 minutes for their lunches. Monday morning quarterback?! Trite. Monday morning heart attack? Hey, he would have died anyway. So shall we all. Does that mean we should not bother going to a doctor?
As for the guy with alcohol for blood. Perhaps as part of his probation, he should be required to wear "flammable" signs, to warn smokers to keep a safe distance.

In all honesty, Parkland isn't a bad hospital but there are OTHER hospitals all very close to each other in that same area. If I've been waiting too long, I'd head over to Baylor. Plus, the wait times at Parkland are well-known in this area. I avoid that hospital at all costs unless I'm taken there by ambulance (which I was after a car accident). I love Herrera's restaurant, though. That's too bad about Mike.

Parkland tried charging the surrounding counties for their indigent who would drive down for care, but I don't remember what ever happened with that.
