Those look like pressure suits, rather than true space suits; pressure suits work in low atmospheric pressure, where space suits work in zero atmospheric pressure.

Still, they actually could have been real Air Force surplus, although I wouldn't have worn one in low pressure.

Surely even in 1961, $180 would have been suspiciously cheap for a genuine space suit, or even a hi-alt pressure suit?

It's an early G-suit. Google is your friend. https://fws-files.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/website/auctions/items/large/4024822_1.jpg David Clark MC-3A Partial Pressure Flying Suit. It lacks the helmet to supply air at high altitudes. Reading the text in the ad note the suit is inflatable. In a cockpit it would be attached to an air compressor, inflating the various internal bladders to prevent blackout during high-G maneuvers. They were sold as surplus property as better designs replaced them. Which explains the price.
