Dude Where’s My House

Al Byrd of Atlanta, Georgia got a disturbing voice mail last Monday. A neighbor informed him that his famly home in Carrollton,Georgia was being torn down. After calling to comfirm the message he headed to Carrollton. Sure enough the house his father built, that Al was raised in had been torn down without a word to him. While the house was not occupied it did contain family heirlooms and memorabilia that are irreplaceable. Upon further investigation by the Carrollton Sheriff's Department, it was discovered that the demolition was a 'mistake'. Perhaps next time the contractor invovled gets an order to demolish a house they will request a street address, not just GPS coordinates, before they tear down a $200,000 property. Mr Byrd has an attorney, as well he should under the circumstances. I thought technology was supposed to help, then again this isn't the first problem that can be attributed to GPS devices.

Anybody happen to notice the nasty comments at the bottom of this story? Unfathomable, given the situation...

First of all, what a shame. The problem with GPS coordinates is you also have to tell people what datum you are using. Small mistakes can cost a lot.
