Bus Driver Asks Kids If He Should Hit Dog, Then Does

January 1994: A school bus driver in Port Washington, Wisconsin insisted he was only joking when he shouted out "Should I hit the dog?" seconds before he hit a dog on the road. The animal belonged to two of the children on the bus. It often came up to the road to meet them. The driver, who later resigned, blamed the accident on icy conditions.

Your dog should be restrained in the yard, not running out in the road. They aren't smart enough to determine that a rolling vehicle is a dangerous object. Especially a bus.

Once your dog gets a taste of chasing cars, it's all over. We lived on a country road and the dog could hear the cars coming from a quarter mile away. She was pretty obedient in most other aspects, but I couldn't break her from car chasing. The mail man clipped her, busting up her rear hip and leg. That did not deter her, for as soon she healed, she was right back at it.
