LOOK OUT!

A pilot attempting to land at an airstrip close to a festival where a Ferris wheel stood claimed he did not see it. After the collision two kids were trapped in a gondola and the pilot and his passenger were trapped in the mangled plane till rescuers could extricate them. Didn't see it...really dude?

Perhaps a different venue for the festival is in order. An glasses for the pilot too.
Paul, honey, if you can shrink the pic that'd be great. I tried but could not do it.

Have you ever been driving and seen those big orange balls on power lines? They are there to let pilots landing at small airstrips know where those lines are at so they don't hit them.

They work quite well and they are on whole hell of a lot smaller than the gondolas on that Ferris wheel.

Maybe he was landing on autopilot so he could finish securing his membership in the mile high club. 😉

I'm thinking Patty's got a point. The Ferris wheel was right by the airstrip. Two wrongs don't make a right.

You could also say that whoever issued the permit for a carnival with a tall ride of any kind next to an airport and in the landing path was asleep at the wheel. The carnival operators may not have known there was a nearby airstrip but the people issuing permits should have.

@Steve: Not according to the article.

Why did I have to go to a map to find out where in the world Taree is? Journalism is really starting to exert a negative air pressure!

There are contradicting stories in the article. But I will go with the pilot's version that he failed in a landing attempt and started to return to the proper glide path for another attempt.

So there is a good chance that the Ferris wheel was not improperly located in the landing path and the pilot erred in his try for another landing.

Looks like just an unfortunate accident with pilot inexperience as a possible contributing factor.

But they can all be thankful that no one was killed. However, I do think there was a definite need for a change of underpants.
