I guess it falls under micro brewing now, so making 'shine is fine. 😝

The making of shine was never illegal. It was the sale thereof that got the revenuers' nose in a snit! Uncle Sugar was missing out on his taxes! (Oh, yea, there was some propaganda about them being worried about health issues too.)

The moon shines in the East
The moon shines in the West
But down in Pa's cellar
The moonshines best

True story...

When I was 12 I was hunting with my grandfather and a couple of uncles down in Arkansas. It was a very hot dry day and when I saw one of my uncles pull a small bottle of "water" out of his hip pocket I asked if I could have a sip of water too. The water was actually a local home brew they called Panther Piss. Think "pure grain alcohol" without the pure part.

I don't know which knocked me on my ass quickest, that slug of "shine" or the time my grandfather let me shoot his double barrel shotgun and failed to tell me that if the trigger wasn't pulled just right both barrels would go off at once. That happened the same summer as the moonshine and at 12 I was a skinny kid that had to stand twice to cast a shadow.

A buddy of mine pulled both barrels on his Gpa's 10gage! Broke his shoulder, split a board on the side of the barn, and missed the hawk he was shooting at clean!

Me? I stuck to single barrel models myself.
