Pressure Cooker Catastrophes

Possibly the most dangerous type of cooker is the oldest design that has the cover that is set in place and turned to lock. If you don't get the top locked properly it can be blown off during cooking. Grandma Bragg told me she survived two incidents and kitchen repairs over the years. Those types scare the hell out of me.

I didn't own a pressure cooker for years until I found a design that has a lid that is a bit oval shaped and maneuvered through a hole in the body. That feature makes sure that the lid is properly aligned for sealing. Put it on the stove and when it starts venting, steam pressure locks it in place and it is impossible to remove until all pressure is released at the end of the cooking process. I feel a lot safer using this cooker, but I still don't hang around the kitchen when it's doing its thing.

KDP, I have one of those old cookers. Many thanks for the warning!
